Post Surgery Pupdate

My Lord. I’m sitting next to a sleeping (pretty doped up) pup. Abbey had her surgery yesterday, and my God, the last few days were awful. After my last pupdate, Abbey’s tumor basically ruptured. There was so. much. blood. It was awful. I wrapped it up the best I could, and Chris took her to the emergency vet. They said I had it wrapped up well enough and the bleeding had stopped, so she was fine. I made my poor husband tell them to actually look at it and rewrap it. So, she came home with a shoulder-to-toe wrapping that we could just keep on until surgery (unless it got wet or she started to bleed through). So, it was nerve-wracking and difficult to keep it clean and dry in Michigan winter.

So, we made it to Monday. The surgery went “as well as could be expected” according to our surgeon.

She came home super drugged up, whining, and making these weird grumbling sounds. She can barely stay upright, and she peed in the house because when we were outside, she got scared. Today started out better. She went out and peed, ate breakfast heartily, and took her meds with no issues. She’s currently sleeping. This is after noticing this morning that her toes were swollen and she was leaking fluid between them. An emergency vet call ensued, and our surgeon asked for me to send photos of her foot. After an hour waiting to hear back from him, completely in a panic, his nurse called and said he was unconcerned about any of it and to email him another photo tomorrow. I am NOT cut out for this level of anxiety-inducing circumstances. I can barely make it through a typical day’s stressors. But for now, she’s home, she’s apparently okay, and I only have 20 more days of this. Send prayers and strength. Maybe Starbucks. Zoloft. Something. I’m actually so stressed that I’m watching movies. I never can sit in one spot long enough to watch anything on my own, but I’m sitting next to my sleeping puppy on the floor, watching 10 Things I Hate About You.

That is all. I’m exhausted. Have a great week.
